Montana's whitetail live in the river bottoms and brushy draws, and their rut runs a touch later than the Midwest. Chasing builds through mid-November and peak breeding lands roughly November 18–25, with the marquee cottonwood-bottom action in the third and fourth weeks of the month. (The mule deer rut runs a little later still, into late November and early December.)
